What do copywriters actually do?
And all the other burning questions you’ve always wanted to ask a copywriter, but never have.
Until now…
What do copywriters do?
Copywriters write words that lead to a conversion. I mainly write copy for service-based business owners.
Copywriters (like me!) also write email nurture sequences, landing pages, social ads and everything in between.
Content writers are different (I don’t do this kind of writing). They write brand-building content like blogs and social media posts. In this case, the conversion is usually a much smaller commitment, like a click to follow you on Tik Tok, or download your e-book.
My copywriting process is different. I have a background in psychology and I spend alot of time conducting ‘voice of customer research to understand the psychographic behaviours of your audience before I write a word on your page.
As I write I weave subtle persuasion principles all through the words. And that’s now I’m able to get results for my clients. Wanna see some pages I have written?
How long does a copywriting project usually take?
Usually from the kick-off session, to completing the drafts takes about 2-3 weeks. Placing the copy into the design will depend on the designer (but I can help manage this process and usher things along).
Then we do a final review and sense check, before it goes live.
What will you need from me?
“Project management” is my middle name. I’ll make sure you’re across all the project timelines and when you’ll need to allow time in your calendar for reviews and feedback.
Before the kick-off session, I’ll get you to fill in some bits and pieces, including a target audience profile and brand messaging exercise, to make sure we get as much value from our time together as humanly possible.
What are the copywriting payment terms?
50% of the project fee is paid to kick the project off (before the strategy session). And the remaining 50% when you approve the final draft. I work with clients all over the world and show my prices in USD but you pay in your own currency.
Can you take care of the design too?
Words are my creative outlet. I leave the design to the professionals. I have a few ah-mazing designers and developers to recommend if you need one (I know they’re like gold dust).
I can work closely with your designer when it comes to placing the copy, to make sure it all runs smoothly.
I can write! Why do I need a copywriter?
Great question. Copywriting involves many different disciplines; from SEO to psychology and sales techniques, to brand strategy.
So although technically you can write….I’d argue conversion-copywriting is a special super-skill (although maybe I’m biased).
Having said all that…I offer online courses which will teach you all the basic skills you need to make writing for your business quicker and easier.
Can we use what you write in other places?
Damn write you can. l can go through exactly how, when, why and where to use the messaging we create for your launch copy, in other content and communication for your business.
You’ll have a great bank of marketing messages to use forevermore.
What exactly is copywriting?
Copywriting is a specialist skill that uses a mega-mix of sales psychology, persuasion principles and copywriting techniques, to increase conversions.
It can be used for websites, landing pages, email sequences, paid ads and more.
